My favourite part of this one? Leon and Cloud. I had a criminal amount of fun writing them, and they fill me with emoticon hearts.

I'm posting these two chapters a day late since yesterday was nonstop crazy for nineteen hours, so there should be another tomorrow. Ten and eleven are very short; twelve is by far the longest. And I'm very fond of twelve. And then after that thirteen and the epilogue should be posted at the same time, and I'm very, very fond of both of those. I do love this one as well, though. One should probably keep in mind that the end of the last chapter, the events of this chapter, and those in the first bit of the next chapter are happening literally right on top of each other.

“If you recall, gentlemen,” he said happily, “we had a betting pool going on this very subject.”

I'm posting these together because, well, they're the last of the AkuRoku arc for the time being, though they're still gonna be hanging around in the background and their relationship will get explored much more deeply later on. Chapters 6 and 7 are going to be one hundred percent pure humor whereas this one, being mostly about Roxas's issues, is one of the most serious chapters. After that we get to Deae Shippuden the Vexen/Marluxia, which is totally different from the AkuRoku and which I enjoyed writing immensely. But this is the last bit of the Axel and Roxas story for now.

All right, here we go. This is the story I've been working on for a couple of months now, and it's come out to over 75,000 words. It's completely done, but I'm going to be posting it one or two chapters at a time every couple of days, starting with the prologue and first chapter today.

I have to start this off by giving innumerable thanks to crystal_queer, my beta on this piece. She really threw herself into it and we got to know my versions of these characters inside and out on every level. If the way she dug into their psyches is any indication, she's going to be a fantastic psychologist someday. She egged me on in all the right ways, and thanks to her this story has a better Zexion, cuter Cloud and Leon, and 33% more gratuitous Organization-on-Saïx violence than it would have otherwise.

Next time on Deae: “Why am I not dead?” he asked himself angrily. He marched the few steps over to the door and threw it open. The loud bang attracted the attention of the four or five students who were already present in the hallway as Axel flew out into the corridor, teeth clenched, shoulders hunched, and breaths coming fast. “Why the fuck am I not dead?” he shouted at them.

Rox!Sim keeps flirting with Ax!Sim and Ax!Sim is having none of it.

Fake edit: Oh, okay, now they're all "let's snuggle in bed for like four hours". That's more like the Axel and Roxas I know. But without the sea salt ice cream.

Fake edit 2: Vexen and Marluxia are, like, the fucking cutest ever. Esp. with Vexen's hair in a ponytail, which is just about the cutest thing ever on its own. I think the only people who'll be able to out-cute them will be Leon and Cloud, but that's true both in and out of the Sims.

Larxene leaned back, shifting her hips to the side and giving her best friend a long look. "I think you're taking the wrong approach."

Pouting slightly, Marluxia muttered, "Well, Vexen's not really a very approachable person."

Marluxia stared at her for a long moment and then nodded slowly. "So what you're saying is that if I want Vexen to like me, I have to grab him by the balls."

So, with what I've got in my notebook, if my estimates are correct, I've just hit fifty thousand words on a single piece for the very first time, and that's even accounting for the thousand word scene that I wrote that actually has literally no place to go in the story itself and which will probably be discarded. Or else tacked on as an appendix; there are a few more scenes that literally have nowhere else to go kicking around in my head and I could just put them all in as that, in the great (and by great, I mean stupid) tradition of JRR Tolkien. Except my appendices are a fuck of a lot better than the Tale of Aragorn and Arwen, I can guarantee that.

So I've just written my first fan novel, and it's not done yet. Truth be told, I don't even know when it's going to end. It might be soon, though; I started off with thirteen main characters, two of whom were going to be something of a focus. Namely Axel and Roxas. Then I kind of lost that focus, 'cause they didn't really have too much to say, and then I regained the focus because they had issues that cropped up and needed to be resolved. And I didn't really have any other main characters of any degree until Vexen and Marluxia were like, hey, over here. Hi. And I was like... <3. But now they've resolved their issues as well. Well, as much as those issues can or should be resolved.

But really, yeah, I don't know where I'm going with this or what I'm talking about. I just feel like this is a milestone for me, of a sorts. Because I think it's very easy for people who write by chapters to get sucked into things and end up writing fifty, seventy-five, a hundred thousand words. But I don't do that; I never put out a piece until it's totally finished. I've got three projects in the workds I expect to hit around fifty-thousand, and now one of them has gotten there. I just gotta make myself wind this down, go back and fill in the numerous blanks, and get it out of here so I can do the others.

The one thing that's been bothering me is the feeling that nobody is going to read this monstrosity. It's too broad and deals with too many different things and is way too episodic and sporadic and fucked up, and it's way too long. I just feel like the only person who'll end up reading it or giving me any feedback will be crystal_queer. Who's been reading it as I write it and discussing everything in-depth and really helping me get to know my own characters better because she's fuckawesome.

Which makes me kind of wish these long stories would go away. 3000-16,000 word concept fics are what I do best, I think. Why can I not just stick with that? ;_;

And the trashy obligatory high school AU - one of which EVERY Kingdom Hearts slash writer has to have in her repertoire - that's been kicking around in my head bothering me for days? Yeah, fuck off. As far as the high school AU romances go, I want to buck the trend either by not writing one at all or by writing one in which a school bus crashes through the wall of the auditorium. As I cannot figure out where the school bus would fit into your plot, I want you to go the hell away.
