They're engaged after like three days and they won't stop making googly eyes at each other. Riku and Sora, on the other hand, are not simperingly in love but they do have a basement with floor-to-ceiling plate glass windows looking directly into the in-ground swimming pool. I plan on making a bunch of incredibly attractive sims to come swim in the pool while they sit in their basement lounge sipping champagne out of crystal goblets. I suppose that Cloud and Leon will be two of those incredibly attractive Sims. Axel and Roxas just do not make the cut, and Cloud is the best-looking person in the neighborhood.

I heard that my Sims can woohoo in sarcophagi. Axel's lifetime wish is to do a bunch of tomb explorations, and they're going to have a honeymoon coming up after they get married. This is all working out rather conveniently. For Axel, at least.

The Lord loves a working man, don't trust whitey.

My parents were watching a National Geographic show about neo-Nazis in the US earlier. My mom was sitting there the entire time sputtering and going, "How can anyone hate so much!?" She gets very vocally angry about things. I had my headphones in one ear and was trying to concentrate on the ~*quest*~ I was doing on my laptop, and then one of the neo-Nazis they were interviewing said that the Aryan race is going to take power in the US the same way Hitler came to power - by being democratically elected.

Everyone in the room immediately looked at me like they knew an explosion was coming, and after I picked my jaw up off the floor I spent the next thirty seconds yelling, "What? WHAT?! Are you fucking-- what the fucking-- WHAT THE FUCK KIND OF NAZI ARE YOU!?"

Oh well. I take comfort in the fact that they're too fucking dumb to know the critical details of their own appropriated history. I also always take comfort, seeing these people, in the fact that they can't even wear a Nazi uniform without making it look like a cheap Halloween costume, much less actually stage a fascist coup. Because there's not much one can say for real Nazis, but at least they knew how to dress themselves in the morning. I think that level of competence is probably minimum for government takeovers.

Today's TeeFury tee is a Star Wars propaganda one. I'm pretty sure there were at least a few people who picked up one of those Christmas AT-AT shirts I linked (I bought three, for me and Harl and my mom), and if you liked that one you'll probably like this one as well. Especially the ladies. :3 As always, eleven dollars including shipping 'til midnight eastern tonight only.

What do we want? Money! Why do we want it? Because we just do!

lol, today I had it brought to my attention first that cosplay.com wants people to give them money for ~*special memberships*~ now. And then I had it brought to my attention that you can get a showcase photo there without

a) actually making a costume that looks like anything that appears in the franchise you're cosplaying.
b) putting on a wig or even having anything remotely similar to the correct haircolor or style.

I'm a little puzzled as to what services c.com thinks it's capable of providing that are worth money when they can't even google a character before showcasing a costume of them.

Anyway, I lol'd.

Oh. My. God.

Just fucking wow. I'll admit that I've never considered this issue, because I've never heard anyone speak about it. I literally had my hands clasped over my mouth, which was hanging wide open, reading this:

From a remove of two years, Amy now sees the sex that resulted in her pregnancy as rape: something that may have qualified her for an on-base (though self-funded) abortion. However, at the time, because the rape wasn’t brutally violent, and because she had seen fellow servicewomen be ostracized for “crying rape” in the past, she imagined nothing but trouble would come of making a complaint.

Instead, using herbal abortifacient supplements ordered online Amy self-aborted. Unable to find a coat hanger she used her sanitized rifle cleaning rod and a laundry pin to manually dislodge the fetus while lying on a towel on the bathroom floor. It was a procedure she attempted twice, each time hemorrhaging profusely. Amy lost so much blood on the first attempt that her skin blanched and her ears rang. She continued working for five weeks, despite increasing sickness, until she realized she was still pregnant.

The military doesn't deserve these women. The fact that they ~allow~ women to serve only to treat them like they're subhuman while they risk their lives is disgusting. It's criminal, and I will never get over the fact that we live in a world where male members of congress can sit in their cushy chairs back home and prevent women from exercising bodily autonomy and receiving the healthcare they are legally and ethically entitled to because of their own fucked-up misogynistic "religious beliefs" while those women are fighting the government's war.

Oh, and I've been listening to healthcare discussion all day and getting to hear about even more of our lovely congresspeople - our lovely right-wing "get government out of my life" congresspeople who are supposedly against ~government takeover of healthcare~ - trying to put even more anti-woman bullshit in our reform bills. Fuckers.

So did anybody formerly (or currently) read a lot of Harry/Draco fic? I'm trying to remember the name of something I read a long time ago. It was a really popular story, probably novel-length, in which Harry and Draco were somehow magically dependent on each other or something (I believe they were inseparable), and I seem to recall that a significant part of it took place in the hospital wing.

I don't know why, but it's really been bugging me.

The more you know~

Okay, since it's the holidays now and I've started seeing those red buckets around again, I just want to point out that the Salvation Army is a heavily evangelical organization that refuses to hire homosexuals and threatened to close all soup kitchens in New York City when the city government proposed legislation that would require all organizations doing business with it to provide equal benefits to unmarried domestic partners. They're not a charity; they're people who provide aid with ulterior motives. So please, save up your change and buy a toy for a poor child or give to one of the many upstanding charities out there that display real, unconditional compassion for people in need.

Official GRE scores came back. 720/800 verbal (98th percentile), 770/800 quantitative (87th percentile), 5.5/6 analytical writing (92nd percentile). I wonder if I could've gotten a six on that last bit if I'd had time to edit; as it was I wrote until time ran out on both essays. The whole percentile thing in that case is strange to me since it goes in half point increments so there aren't a whole lot of possible scores, but okay. And man, that fucking verbal section. English is one of my biggest strengths and it still kicked my ass. There was at least one word on there I don't think I'd ever heard before. In the end, I guess I'm happy. But I'll still do better next time; if I study a little, I'm sure I can break 1500 and really improve that quantitative score. 87th is the lowest percentile I've ever gotten on a standardized test. Disappointment. ._.

Today I found out that Figwit is in Flight of the Conchords. My mind was blown.

Cool story, bro.

I got a flat tire on my way home from Target today. So I pulled into an abandoned parking lot and decided to change it myself. I've never changed a tire on the PT Cruiser, so I had to find the jack, then figure out how to get the donut down from under the car (my old car had a compartment in the trunk for it), and then I spent like fifteen minutes and a phone call with my dad trying to figure out where the jack was supposed to go for the rear tires. The illustration didn't look anything like the actual car, and the symbol indicating the jack position was entirely absent. Eventually I had to guess, but I did guess right. And the entire time I'm sitting there thinking that soon some guy is going to stop and help me, because that's what always happens when you're a woman with a flat. But I managed to get the tire off (omg the bolts were on there so tight it was so hard ;_;) before anyone did.

As far as I can tell, one of four things has occurred:

1) Chivalry is dead (okay!)
2) Sexism is over and women can be trusted to change their own tires now (yay!)
3) I do not look young and attractive enough all bundled up to warrant attention (okay!)
4) People in this town are just not that friendly (boo!)

Eventually when I was almost done a girl and her mom stopped to help me, and then her dad pulled up because they'd seen me having trouble getting the nuts loose and called him to help, and he put the donut on and made sure it was tight enough, the last bit of which would've been pretty difficult for me and potentially very bad. So I was grateful for that. I went to get the tire patched since there was a screw stuck in it, and I had to wait an hour and a half, and when they were done the guy came out and told me there'd been two screws and a nail in it. I could feel the blood drain out of my face because I thought that was going to mean I'd have to pay more or buy a new tire. And then he laughed and charged me fifteen bucks so that was a huge relief.

So that was shitty but I'm also kind of happy that I got to change the tire mostly on my own, so I can do it faster next time and more easily in much worse conditions.

This is the worst conversation I've had the displeasure of having in quite a while.

I am as sick of stupid straight people as I am of stupid white people, stupid Christians, stupid men, stupid wealthy people, stupid privileged fuckers in general. I work every single day to try to make myself more aware of my various forms of privilege, and there's nothing that I hate more than the fact that there's an unfathomable number of assholes out there who coast through life willfully ignoring it (because I know for a fact that that guy knows what privilege is; he has no excuse) and they never get called on it.

I'm just so angry. And I got real short with him real fast because he is on that community all the damn time so it's not like he hasn't had issues of privilege laid out for him very clearly and extensively time after time after time.

Oh, and the best part is that he self-identifies as a liberal. Right.

Little known fact: when I first started at university, I was a Classics major. A mental breakdown that necessitated me changing schools (for a while) to somewhere without a Classics program put a stop to that, but I would've switched to history soon enough anyhow. There's too much of a literary bent in Classics for my tastes. And the switch is probably a good thing anyway, because I later realized that there is nothing more frustrating to me academically than knowing that I can't and never will be able to read something. For example, right now the fact that Myrmidons is a lost play is really pissing me off.

I bet it was really hot. ( ._.)

Moonshoes Potter!

1) I'm very happy that Abrams Trek has gotten new people to watch the Original Series because new fans are always yay, but can Star Trek please stop being trendy now? Or can we let a mediocre self-indulgent director remake Next Gen or something instead?

2) I hope they never, ever, ever make Good Omens into a movie. I will cry.

3) I figured out what bothers me about Lady Gaga being a "gay rights leader", and it's that she says she's bisexual and that's great, whatever, but from everything she's said she does not date women, would not be satisfied having sex with women, and wants to get married to a man, which means that the possibility of actually being with a woman has not crossed her mind. So she's never going to actually know what it's like to be gay and to live the life of a gay person. She'll never know what it's like not to have straight privilege, but she wants to bill herself as bisexual and be a gay rights leader anyway when even her music and videos are heteronormative. It's her right to label herself what she wants and her right to make what music she wants, but the combination of it all just bugs me. In my opinion, there's more to being queer than having your boyfriend be "weirded out" that you think girls are pretty.

4) I've been watching A Very Potter Musical finally, and I'm almost done, and it's amazing. I avoided it because I thought it would be cheesy and stupid and that people only watched it because OMG LOL U GAIZ IT'S HARRY POTTER AND THEY'RE SINGING, but holy shit I was so delightfully wrong. I still hold that it COULD'VE been cheesy and stupid and been that popular, but I've laughed so hard through the whole thing.
